The Stanley ACIS station has several high recent snowfall years. The NOAA/NCICS Idaho State Climate Summary says winter and spring precipitation is projected to increase during this century, while warmer conditions can shift more of that precipitation from snow toward rain.(1)
Stanley calculation
A usable annual snowfall year has enough daily records to compare annual totals. The annual chart uses those Stanley ACIS snowfall years from 1981-2025.(2) It compares earlier usable annual snowfall years, 1981-1999, with recent usable annual snowfall years, 2011-2025.
Recent usable annual snowfall years average 101" of snowfall, compared with 71" in the earlier comparison period. 6 of the 10 highest usable annual snowfall years in this ACIS record are from 2010 or later.
Idaho snow information
The NOAA/NCICS Idaho State Climate Summary describes mountain snowpack as highly variable and generally lower than mid-20th-century levels. It also says winter and spring precipitation is projected to increase during this century, while higher temperatures are projected to cause more of that precipitation to fall as rain instead of snow. Those statewide snowpack patterns are not the same measurement as annual snowfall at the Stanley station.(1)
The highest usable annual snowfall year in this ACIS record is 2017, with 167.5". However, recent years also include both high-snow and low-snow winters.
