The local calculation uses precipitation totals from the Stanley ACIS station. Each year is compared with the station's 1991-2020 annual precipitation normal of 18.2".(1)
In the 2000s, 8 of the 10 years had enough precipitation records to compare annual totals. All 8 were below the 1991-2020 normal. The driest continuous stretch in that 2000s record runs from 2003 to 2007, when Stanley averaged 4.1" per year.
Idaho drought information
Boise State's Idaho drought summary describes exceptional drought in parts of Idaho during the 2003-2004 dry spell,(2) and Drought.gov notes repeated early-21st-century droughts across the Pacific Northwest. The NOAA/NCICS Idaho State Climate Summary says naturally occurring droughts are projected to intensify under warmer conditions.(3, 4)
